Rangers player ratings v St Johnstone as James Tavernier produces moment of magic on Covid return

It was far from vintage Rangers, but they showed why they are the reigning champions by coming from behind to beat St Johnstone.

Michael O'Halloran's early second half strike had them in a spot, but Kemar Roofe and James Tavernier ensured Steven Gerrard's side left with all three points.

The win also sends the Ibrox club to the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Here's how they rated out of ten.

Jon McLaughlin: No chance with O'Halloran's goal and was relatively untested aside from that. 6

James Tavernier: Came up with the match-winning moment after a good display. 8

Leon Balogun: Fortunate to get away with one poor clearance but overall did well. 7

Filip Helander: Defended well but was forced off which will be a concern for Rangers. 6

Calvin Bassey: Got forward to good effect down the left-hand side. 7

Glen Kamara: Quietly effective although has played better this season. 6

Steven Davis: Did what he usually does in the centre of the park. 7

Joe Aribo: Showed good strength against physical opponents and tried to be positive. 7

Ryan Kent: A couple of decent runs but was on the end of some treatment from St Johnstone. 6

Kemar Roofe: Stepped up and took the spot-kick with confidence. Good performance. 7

Alfredo Morelos: Was inches away from a goal but Roofe was more impressive. 6

Subs

Jack Simpson: Slotted in well enough for Helander. 5

Fashion Sakala: Provided a spark in attack late on. 5

John Lundstram: Little time but battled away. 4
