Rangers player ratings as wilting Malik Tillman among six stars to get brutal score

It was another bruising Champions League night for Rangers as they were easily beaten by Napoli.

The Serie A leaders will go through as Group A winners as they recorded a hugely comfortable 3-0 victory over the toiling Ibrox men on Wednesday night. Giovanni Simeone struck a clinical double before Leo Ostigard provided the gloss with a sumptuous second-half header. Under pressure Giovanni van Bronckhorst has now overseen five straight group defeats on Rangers ' first outing at the continent's elite level in over a decade.

And they've found the going absolutely brutal and could yet finish their campaign as the competition's worst ever team. Only a five-goal win over Ajax next week would see them parachute into the Europa League, meaning their European exploits for the season are all-but over, a sobering outcome in the wake of last season's run to Seville.

Here's Record Sport's Andy Newport with his verdict on how the men in light blue fared on another tough evening on the continent.

ALLAN McGREGOR: One man heroics last time against the Italians kept the score down. Might have done better with the opener but could do nothing to prevent Napoli extending their lead. 5

JAMES TAVERNIER: Skipper should have been much tighter to Kim Min-jae as the Korean delivered the devastating cross for Simeone’s goal. 5

LEON KING: Another tough night for the teenager as he was thrown in against Europe’s form team. Failed to cut out the cross for Naploi’s second. 5

BEN DAVIES: Had to watch his step after collecting an early booking but it would have been a torrid evening in any case has he toiled to keep up with Simeone’s killer movement. 4

RIDVAN YILMAZ: Surprise start but endured a nightmare first half up against Italy winger Matteo Politano, who went past him at will. Better going forward, while his cross for Morelos deserved a finishing touch. 4

JOHN LUNDSTRAM: Spent most of the game chasing shadows as Napoli’s classy midfield ran Rangers ragged. Misses next week’s Ajax clash after taking a cynical booking for tug on Ndombele. 4

JAMES SANDS: The American was brought back into midfield to stiffen up the Ibrox side but got nowhere near Ndombele as the Napoli ace ran the show. 4

SCOTT WRIGHT: Created Rangers best chance of the first half when he slotted in Morelos but did little else and was hooked at the break. 4

MALIK TILLMAN: What an enigma the American is. Has delicate feet but a heart to match. Brilliant skill created a first half chance but lacked the work rate his team needed. 4

RYAN KENT: Tried to take the fight to the Italians but the winger found his box of tricks were ineffective against Napoli skipper Di Lorenzo. 5

ALFREDO MORELOS: Had two chances blocked either side of the half before failing to attack a teasing Yilmaz ball across the box just before he was replaced. 5

Subs

FASHION SAKALA: On at the interval but spent most of the game chasing backwards. 3

ANTONIO COLAK: Failed to take big headed chance at the end. 2

SCOTT ARFIELD: Replaced Tillman as Rangers looked to survive in the latter stages. 2

BORNA BARISIC: Pitched in at centre-back as King went off injured. 2
