Rangers player ratings as Scott Wright delivers game changing display but Ryan Kent struggles

Ten-man Rangers dug deep at Ibrox to grind out a vital Europa League play-off win over Alashkert.

John Lundstram 's first-half red card put Steven Gerrard's side up against in a tense first leg encounter but Alfredo Morelos struck after the interval to claim victory.

The Premiership champions now take a slender lead to Armenia next week, knowing that avoiding defeat will secure passage to the group stage once again.

Here's how they rated on Thursday night.

ALLAN McGREGOR: Clocked up his 90th European appearance for Rangers and had little to do other than charge out of his box to make an early hurried clearance - 6

JAMES TAVERNIER: Still not playing with the verve and vigour that epitomised last season. Nothing wrong with his desire and his assist for Morelos was terrific - 6

CONNOR GOLDSON: Slung a couple of dangerous looking diagonals to Kent early on and defensively had to be alert on occasion when Alashkert broke out and had a couple of headers off target - 6

FILIP HELANDER: One shocking pass right on half time summed up his team’s sloppiness but never really troubled too much and will have much more difficult nights in the future - 6

CALVIN BASSEY: Big night for the youngster and he tried to deliver a stream of crosses into the box and had a claim for a penalty just before the break. Showed the desire that many lacked - 7

JOHN LUNDSTRAM: Looked to be growing into the game when he was booked and then compounded that with a second yellow card that was entirely avoidable. Let his team down - 3

STEVEN DAVIS: Yet again, one of the few who was trying to stay calm as the anxiety built and in the second half he controlled the tempo of the game far more effectively - 7

JOE ARIBO: Didn’t have his usual influence in an attacking sense but did plenty of ball-winning in the first half when the team was struggling and did pick up his performance after the break - 6

IANIS HAGI: Floated in and out of the game in the first half but showed much more energy, desire and creativity after the break and he more than played his part when Rangers were up against it - 7

ALFREDO MORELOS: Did next to nothing for an hour apart from miss a great chance with a header but when the next opportunity presented itself he kept his head to score the vital goal that was desperately needed - 6

RYAN KENT: Hit the bar but should have scored and this was another night when next to nothing came off for a player who looks shorn of real confidence and he didn’t reappear after the break - 4

SUBS:

SCOTT WRIGHT: On for Kent at half time and made a massive difference with his attitude, ability and energy - 7

SCOTT ARFIELD: Replaced Aribo with 10 minutes to go - 2

CEDRIC ITTEN: Got the last seven minutes for Morelos - 2

STEPHEN KELLY: Injury time sub for Hagi - 1
