Rangers player ratings as Scott Arfield turns in a near perfect performance

Rangers made it back-to-back home wins over Celtic with a resounding victory at Ibrox.

James Tavernier and Scott Arfield grabbed the goals in a brilliant performance to which the champions had no answer.

Steven Gerrard is delighted with every one of his players – but who gets top marks from us?

Here are Euan McLean’s man-by-man ratings...

Wes Foderingham

Back up keeper has barely played this season and he must have felt little has changed as he had almost nothing to do against an utterly toothless Celtic side. 6

James Tavernier celebrates scoring his side's opener against Celtic (PA)

James Tavernier

Killer delivery was too hot for everyone to handle as the skipper got Rangers off to a flier just two minutes into the game. Tireless running reflected Gers high tempo. 7

Connor Goldson

Gobbled up the hopeful long balls that Celtic resorted to attempting in order to counter Rangers effective high press. The defender will never enjoy an easier Old Firm derby. 7

Nikola Katic

Showed more signs of a young man growing into his role at Rangers after a stop-start debut season at Ibrox. Barely troubled by Edouard. 7

Flanagan is booked after clashing with Brown (PA)

Jon Flanagan

Lucky only to be booked for forearm smash on Brown amid jostling before a corner. But that risky moment of indiscipline was the only blot on an otherwise comfortable performance. 6

Ryan Jack

Energy of his performance in the engine room reflected the tempo of Rangers high press that squeezed the life out of Celtic. Another man in blue who can be proud of his day. 7

Glen Kamara

Composure and skill amid the frantic midfield battle perfectly summed up by the way he created Gers’ second goal for Arfield. Outstanding footwork and visionary throughball was a touch of class. 8

Steven Davis

Wily campaigner is another to thrive in Steven Gerrard’s new system and quietly went about his business with efficiency. Didn’t hog the limelight quite like those around him but nevertheless an important cog in the wheel. 7

Arfield celebrates scoring his side's second goal (PA)

Scott Arfield

Continues to impress in the advanced roving role supporting Defoe with his intelligent runs and clever touches. Thoroughly deserved his goal for a superb man of the match performance, but booked for his celebration. 9

Ryan Kent

Constant menace driving at Celtic. Provided a vital link between the midfield and Defoe and only missing the goal his positive performance merited. 8

Jermain Defoe

Could have been booked for 20th minute attempt to win a penalty claim but led the line with the intelligence of an experienced big game player. Denied by Bain and the bar just before being subbed for Morelos. 6

Has Rangers winger Ryan Kent dropped hint over his future with gesture in win against Celtic?

Subs

Alfredo Morelos (Defoe 80): Given 10 minutes to shine but wait for his first Old Firm goal continues. 2

Daniel Candeias (Arfield 83): No real time to make his mark. 1

Ross McCrorie (Davis 90): Late cameo. 1
