Rangers player ratings as Scott Arfield and John Lundstram struggle in Sweden

It was a night of disappointing in Sweden until Steven Davis arrived with a late goal to get his side back in the game.

Rangers looked like they were down and out after two goals early in the second half from Malmo but Davis' late strike gives them a big opportunity.

Steven Gerrard will have been frustrated with many of his side's performances with the likes of John Lundstram and Scott Arfield really struggling.

They were missing a lot of players but there was no excuse for how poor some of the showings were and it sets up next week for a fascinating game at Ibrox.

Here's how the players rated.

Allan McGregor

Made a good save in the first half but could do nothing about the two goals in the second half. 6

James Tavernier

Caught out of position at the opening goal and didn't cover himself in glory at the second either. Had a couple of decent moments in the first half but defensively it was a tough one. 5

Connor Goldson

Fluffed his attempt at a clearance for the second goal and then failed to stop the shot. Normally rock solid at the back but struggled with the movement in attack. 5

Filip Helander

The best of Rangers defenders but still had a few issues when Malmo's front players attacked him. His first appearance of the season and it showed. 6

Borna Barisic

Struggled in the first half against Berget and his set pieces were poor throughout the game. Rangers needed more from him. 5

Steven Davis

The only one of the three Rangers midfielders who played okay but even he struggled at times. Was poor at the second goal but scored a vital late strike to keep his side in it. 6

John Lundstram

Made his first start and had a really poor night. Was constantly caught in possession and made poor decisions in his passing. Not a great start when it comes to competitive games. 4

Scott Arfield

His lack of game time in pre-season and on Saturday really showed in this one. A lot of sloppy passes and lay-offs and he should have scored in the first half. Not a great night for him. 4

Scott Wright

Probably Rangers best player in the game and looked the most likely to cause problems for the Malmo defence. His final ball wasn't good enough though. 6

Cedric Itten

Started the game well and worked hard against Malmo's back three but never really offered enough quality in the final third. Hooked after an hour. 6

Ryan Kent

Similar to Wright, he looked like he could cause problems but his final ball was sloppy and he should have done much better. Played the game far too deep. 6

Fashion Sakala

On for half an hour and worked hard but got no change out of the Malmo defence. 3
