Rangers player ratings as Ryan Kent struggles on miserable day at Tannadice

Rangers crashed to their first defeat in the Scottish Premiership since March 2020 and it really wasn't a great performance.

Steven Gerrard's men struggled to really create enough opportunities and it was a frustrating one for them but the quality was lacking in the final third.

In particular it was a poor day for Ryan Kent and John Lundstram and there were no real successes in a blue shirt, with the possible exception of Filip Helander.

And here's how the players rated at Tannadice.

Jon McLaughlin

Had very little to do in the game and couldn't do much for the goal. A bit of a strange decision to leave Allan McGregor on the bench again. 6

James Tavernier

Wasn't at his best for the goal and his deliveries weren't at their best throughout the day. In a bit of a bad run of form and needs to improve a bit. 6

Connor Goldson

Another who has started the season poorly and looked a bit sloppy at times. Could do nothing at the goal and dealt with most things but still needs to improve in his overall game. 6

Filip Helander

Rangers best defender again as he dealt with anything coming towards him. Probably the best player in a blue shirt. 7

Borna Barisic

The injuries he suffered in the summer seem to still be having an effect on him and he doesn't look at his sharpest. Maybe he needs a run of games to get back to top level match fitness. 5

Steven Davis

It sums up Rangers day when even the Northern Irishman was sloppy on the ball and nowhere near his best. Really struggled to get going. 6

John Lundstram

The summer signing was poor once again for the second game in a row and seems to be struggling to fulfil the role being asked of him. Big improvements needed. 4

Glen Kamara

Another who wasn't quite at his best today but kept working hard. Should have done much better late on when the ball fell to him inside the box. 6

Joe Aribo

Into the front three today and played well in the first half but faded in the second. Doesn't seem right up to full fitness just yet. 6

Alfredo Morelos

Another who isn't quite sharp enough yet but Rangers will be delighted to get him back. Went close in the first half and there arguably could have been a red card when Charlie Mulgrew hauled him down as he raced through on goal. 6

Ryan Kent

Arguably his worst performance in a blue shirt but he never hides and that's always a big thing. Hooked to allow Cedric Itten to come on late on. 4

SUBS

Scott Wright

Chucked on as Rangers chased an equaliser and put a couple of balls into the box but no real quality from him. 3

Cedric Itten

Replaced Ryan Kent as Rangers went a bit more direct but never offered much. 2

Jermain Defoe

Got the last 10 minutes but couldn't do much in that time. 2
