Rangers player ratings as Alfredo Morelos stars against Benfica despite drawing blank

Rangers were made to wait for their passage to the Europa League round of 32 after a late Benfica comeback robbed them of three points at Ibrox.

The Portuguese side stunned Steven Gerrard 's team in Lisbon as they nicked a point despite trailing 3-1 heading into the late stages.

And it was a similar story in Glasgow, with a James Tavernier own goal and Pizzi's strike ensuring a share of the points in the final 15 minutes.

It had taken Rangers just seven minutes to open the scoring when Scott Arfield followed in on the rebound after Tavernier struck the bar.

Kemar Roofe looked to have made sure of the points with another moment of European magic as he fired in a sizzler from 20 yards.

But another frustrating finish was in order as Benfica rallied to keep their Group D hopes alive and kicking.

Ultimately, though, it was a productive night at the office for Rangers and here’s how Record Sport rated their players...

Allan McGregor

Couldn’t mark his club record-equalling 82nd European appearance with a clean sheet after late goals. 7

James Tavernier

Skipper netted late own goal after having his work cut out against electric Everton. Header off crossbar early on. 6

Connor Goldson

Ever-present in Steven Gerrard’s 39 Euro games and defence should have been tighter at Benfica's late goals. 6

Leon Balogun

Brilliant blocking challenge to deny Rafa Silva on the stroke of half-time but would have been gutted at loss of late goals. 6

Borna Barisic

Neat exchange of passes with Alfredo Morelos down the left before he swung in cross which led to opener. 6

Glen Kamara

Excellent play from the Finnish international on the left for Rangers’ second goal and worked tirelessly. 7

Steven Davis

Northern Ireland captain returned to the starting XI and was composed in the middle of the park on a frantic night. 7

Scott Arfield

(SNS Group)

Kept up his recent sensational form with sixth goal of the season to give Gers a dream start. 7

Ryan Kent

Epitomised the work rate of the Rangers side with his tracking back but hesitated late on when he had good shooting chance. 7

Kemar Roofe

Brilliant right-footed finish for the second goal on the night after point blank header saved. Should have had a penalty after cross handled. 7

Alfredo Morelos

No goals despite hitting the crossbar but offers so much more with great link-up and hold-up play. Neat one-two with Borna Barisic for move which led to opener.
