Respected English-based football magazine Four Four Two has named Rangers’ Ibrox Stadium as the best ground in the United Kingdom for atmosphere.
Celtic Park pips Manchester United’s Old Trafford for second place but the Hoops are beaten by their nearest rivals.
“If you’re looking for the best atmosphere in British football, Glasgow is the place,” they claim.
“For the vibrancy, passion and intensity on and off the pitch, nothing on these shores compares to the match day experience at an Old Firm fixture.
“Few games in the world can equal it – arguably, only Boca Junior versus River Plate [in Argentina].”
Hearts made the top 10, coming in ninth place with Tynecastle rated one higher than Wembley, and derby rivals Hibs’ Easter Road came in at No.18.
The national stadium, Hampden, finished in 28th while other SPFL clubs to make the list included Ross County’s Global Energy Stadium (34), Aberdeen’s Pittodrie (38), Dumbarton (43), Alloa Athletic (52), Inverness (70), Peterhead’s Balmoor (74), Arbroath’s Gayfield Park (77) and Morton’s Cappielow (89).
Some of the weird and wonderful Scottish footballing surroundings also made the list including the famous hedge at Brechin City’s Glebe Park (54).
Fraserburgh’s Bellslea Park (57), Fort William’s Claggan Park (60) and Eriskay’s The Football Pitch (87) all feature too.
