NEW YORK _ The Rangers overcame a sloppy Sunday afternoon performance, defeating the Canucks in a shootout, 4-3, to win for the fourth-straight game and 10th time in their last 12. Jimmy Vesey scored the winning shootout goal in the seventh round of the shootout.
Vesey, moved up in the third period from the fourth line, buried a spin-o-rama pass by Nash to tie the game at 3 apiece at 5:05 of the third, continuing a frantic first several minutes of the period.
Michael Grabner scored 19 seconds in to make it 2-2, but 41 seconds after that Sam Gagner grabbed the lead back for Vancouver after Brendan Smith's failed attempt to play the puck up the boards from behind the net.
Loui Eriksson opened the scoring at 7:54 of what was a brutal first period for the Rangers, who were outshot 11-4 through 20 minutes. Jake Virtanen made it 2-0 at 7:21 of the second after the Rangers lost a puck battle at the half-wall in their zone.
Sam Gagner's deflection of a Nick Holden shot went right to Jesper Fast, who scored with 2:20 left in the second.
