Rangers overcome another short start with big finish against Red Sox

BOSTON _ Shin-Soo Choo homered on the first pitch of the game and Robinson Chirinos' three-run homer in the ninth provided a five-run lead as the Rangers evened their series with a 7-2 win against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Rangers starter A.J. Griffin lasted only four innings. He left with the game tied at 2 after throwing 96 pitches. He allowed seven hits and three walks. He walked three consecutive batters in the fourth after two hits to start the inning to push the tying run across.

Cesar Ramos, Shawn Tolleson, Jake Diekman and Matt Bush combined to pitch four scoreless innings in relief.

The Rangers scored twice in the first against Red Sox starter David Price. Choo homered on the first pitch, a 420-foot shot to deep center field. Ian Desmond, who was selected to his second All-Star game Tuesday, singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly to right from Elvis Andrus.

The Rangers added a run in the sixth on Rougned Odor's run-scoring double. Price regrouped to hold Texas to three runs on eight hits and a walk over eight innings.

In the ninth, Texas scored four more, including three on a home run by Chirinos against Craig Kimbrel.
