Rangers or Celtic aren't coming to town insists boss ahead of crucial clash

Gartcairn boss Jamie McKenzie believes the Airdrie juniors can shock West Championship leaders Darvel this weekend.

Cairn welcome the Ayrshire outfit to MTC Park this weekend, and McKenzie was bullish about his sides chances as they take a six-game unbeaten run into the clash.

He told our colleagues at the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser: “No disrespect to these boys but it’s not like we are playing Celtic or Rangers.

“If we go into these games confident you can get something out of these games.

“These boys are playing at our level for a reason, and if we raise our levels by 10 per cent and go into it with a game plan we can get something.

“They do have a bit of quality but so do we, we’ve got a lot of quality in the squad.

”We come in off the back of some good form so we can get a result.”

With Michael Williams leaving the club due to work commitments, McKenzie admits he will also be looking to strengthen the squad.

He added: “We’ve lose Michael so we would maybe look at brining in another defender.

“We’re always on the look-out to bring in more quality to the squad.”
