Rangers' offside goal should have been easily seen, says Motherwell boss Graham Alexander

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander has hit out at the officials after insisting they should 'easily have seen' that Fashion Sakala was offside for Rangers' goal in their 1-1 draw with the Steelmen.

The Ibrox striker gave the hosts the lead after 12 minutes when he nodded the ball past 'Well keeper Liam Kelly from close range, following Joe Aribo's flick on from a James Tavernier corner.

Replays showed Sakala was in an offside position, but it was missed by the officials.

The visitors showed great fighting spirit to claw their way back into the game and equalise through Kaiyne Woolery in the 66th minute.

But Alexander reckoned they could have walked away with their first win in Govan for 24 years if the officials had spotted the offside.

He told Motherwell's club media: "It could have been [three points] because the goal we conceded was offside and should easily be seen.

"He's stood right in front of the goal, a yard from the line, it's a set-piece so there's no catching up with the play - so it's not a goal.

"But we had to overcome that.

"They had opportunities to score, we had opportunities to score; I thought we could have scored just before they did and we should have had a penalty in the first half.

"We knew in the second half we needed to keep plugging away and we knew we'd have an opportunity or two.

"We had to take it when it came along and we did that - it was a great finish from Kaiyne. A great move, to be fair, from the team.

"Rangers had their chances as well.

"It was a game both teams wanted to win. We didn't come here looking for a point, we wanted to try and win the game.

"We played with three strikers all the way through, even when we got the equaliser.

"We wanted to keep that attacking threat because we could work an opportunity to get a winner. "

The injustice of the opener was used as motivation during Motherwell's half-time team talk and Alexander heaped praise on his side for going out and "winning the second half."

He added: "We said [at half-time] if they are going to beat us, it's by that goal that shouldn't have counted.

"We had to go and win the second half and we did win the second half.

"That was what I was delighted about. We stuck at it, we didn't give anything cheap away.

"There was a lot of pressure around our box, but we didn't dive in and give any decision for the referee to make.

"I thought we always carried a threat and I thought we deserved a point at least from all our team work and ethic, and even with the five, six, maybe seven minutes added on at the end, we still saw that through.

"I'm delighted for the boys because we showed a real focus from half-time onwards not to feel sorry for ourselves for a goal that shouldn't have counted."
