Rangers offer Josh McPake fresh pay-off deal to offload attacker this summer

Rangers are looking to offload winger Josh McPake this summer on a permanent deal, despite recent loan interest.

The 22-year-old was omitted from Michael Beale's midweek Champions League squad for PSV at Ibrox, despite qualifying as a homegrown player.

The current UEFA homegrown rule states that the 25-man squad submitted by each club playing in European fixtures must have at least eight locally-trained players named.

McPake is currently contracted at Ibrox until the summer 2024, but Rangers are keen move him on this window.

With this in mind, the club have offered a fresh pay-off deal for the attacker if he can find himself a new club before the end of the window.

Over the summer the former Dundee and Queen's Park man has been the subject of League One loan interest, but currently, Rangers are only entertaining bids for a permanent deal as he does not have a future at the club.

We told earlier this summer how Queen of the South was one of the clubs interested in McPake, but Marvin Bartley's side only offered loan terms.

The Scotland youth international spent last season on loan at Queen’s Park, but fell out of favour as Owen Coyle’s side battled it out for promotion.

McPake was tipped for a bright future at Ibrox when he emerged through the Auchenhowie youth ranks as a talented teenager and he made several loan moves in an attempt to gain vital first team experience.

Spells at Dundee, Morton and Harrogate Town were followed by a new three-year deal in 2021 and he has since spent time with Morecambe and Tranmere Rovers after finding his route to Ibrox blocked in recent campaigns.

The frontman made his Ibrox debut under Steven Gerrard as he came off the bench during the Europa League qualifying victory over St Joseph's in 2019 but failed to hold down a regular squad berth as his dreams of becoming a first team star have gradually faded.
