Rangers news latest as Ben Davies details successful Connor Goldson pairing and Ibrox starlet linked with Palace

The clock is ticking as Rangers prepare for the chance to grab their first piece of silverware under Michael Beale - and tensions are rising with Celtic aiming to deny them the opportunity at Hampden Park in the Viaplay Cup final.

The Englishman took over from Gio van Bronckhorst in November, and has instantly hit the ground running with a run of 13 wins from 14 games to keep Rangers' fading treble hopes alive. Taking them to the Scottish League Cup final with a win over Aberdeen in the semis, Beale has his first sniff of silverware in his managerial career - and Light Blues fans will be urging him to take the opportunity with both hands.

Bitter rivals Celtic will be the ones looking to take the glory away from them, with Ange Postecoglou's men already well-rehearsed in that particular field having won the trophy last season. But Connor Goldson has spoken on the 'need to win trophies', Kenny Miller has issued Rangers a piece of advice ahead of the weekend's crunch clash and an old target has been linked once more going into the weekend's clash.

Goldson in trophy 'judgment' plea as centre-back rallies troops

Connor Goldson has urged his teammates to leave everything out on the pitch as he aims to win the cup final on Sunday afternoon - adding that he 'prides himself' upon trophies. Goldson has won two accolades in his time at Ibrox but knows that he can make it a hat-trick of winner's medals to his collection.

He told RTV: "It is what I pride myself on and I've said it before, at this football club, you are judged on what you win. It's the first trophy of the season, and we need to give everything we can to try and win it."

Tavernier should 'silence doubters' says former boss

Former Rangers manager Mark Warburton has urged James Tavernier to 'silence his doubters' ahead of the huge derby clash on Sunday evening. The former boss was buzzing to see Tavernier inducted into the Rangers Hall of Fame a week ago, despite critical acclaim from some that he doesn't deserve such a title with just two trophies in eight years. But Warburton thinks otherwise for the signing he made way back in 2015 - claiming that the journey Tavernier has been on is worthy enough to silence any doubter over his involvement as a Rangers player.

Rangers beat European giants to stunning youth player

Nigerian wonder kid Thompson Ishaka has been handed a second chance by Rangers, according to reports - with the youngster taking up an offer after impressing Gers chiefs on trial during the summer. PSV, Chelsea and Manchester City were all said to be after his signature, but Rangers are 'on the brink' of signing him after impressing on his trial spell, according to All Nigeria Soccer.

Crystal Palace interested in Light Blues starlet

Record Sport understands that Crystal Palace are one of many English clubs keen on Gers youngster Calum Adamson.

The Scotland under-16 starlet has seen scouts from Palace and other Premier League outfits put him under the microscope in recent weeks, impressing against Denmark and England. Adamson has already been offered a professional deal at Ibrox but the Eagles are ready to swoop in.

Miller tells Rangers to avoid 'torn apart' deja vu

Kenny Miller has pinpointed exactly where Rangers' shortcomings in recent Old Firm derbies have come from - with the former Gers and Celtic striker claiming that the Hoops' midfield is much better than Rangers' in terms of cohesion and tactical understanding. With Callum McGregor, Aaron Mooy, Reo Hatate and Matt O'Riley to choose from, the former Derby County striker thinks the Hoops' engine room will take some overpowering on Sunday.

Brazil's nuts Rangers penalty jibe at Ally McCoist

Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil were engaged in a friendly debate over Rangers' high amount of penalties this season on talkSPORT - with the duo seemingly playing 'Rangers penalty bingo' on Friday morning ahead of the derby. With Neil Lennon in the studio, the trio were on the topic of the Viaplay Cup final before Brazil told McCoist to guess which minute it would be that the Gers 'would get a penalty.'

Brazil jokingly asked McCoist: “What time do you get the penalty, do I go first half or second half?” before McCoist responded: “No it’s later this cup final. (James) Tavernier nets his penalty in the 74th minute.”

Davies delight at Goldson centre-back pairing

Ben Davies revealed he is fond of centre-back partner Connor Goldson's qualities when leading the back line - adding that the two have a 'similar mindset' which works in tandem. Gers have only dropped points three times domestically when Goldson has played this season, and Davies says that he 'gets along' with the 30-year-old.

"He leads the back four well," said Davies. "He can play some good football but he is not afraid to clear his lines. He's got a similar mindset to me in the fact that we can look good and pass the ball nicely after we've defended. We defend first. I think that the similar mindset has helped us get along well together."
