Ryan Conroy says you could see Rangers winger Jake Hastie had raw talent – even during his loan spell at Airdrie.
The 20-year-old who bagged three goals in a six-month spell at the Diamonds in 2018, has made a rapid rise after bursting onto the scene at Motherwell before signing with Steven Gerrard’s side.
Conroy reckons Hastie showed glimpses of the player he would become during his timer at New Broomfield.
“Jake was always a good player,” he told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser.
“He was raw but when he was with us he always had those moments. It just shows you what can happen when you get your chance.
“He got that wee run at Motherwell in the team for six or seven months and he’s ended up at Rangers.”
However, he doesn’t believe that the Ibrox star was the best player he has lined up with during his Diamonds spell – giving striker Iain Russell that accolade.
“The first year was probably my most enjoyable year.
“Iain Russell was a top player for us, along with Andy Ryan and Kyle Hutton. We had a really good changing room. That’s what ended up showing through on the park.
“We had good young players coming through like Jack Leitch and Sean McIntosh as well. There was a great bunch of boys that first season.”
