Rangers move edges closer for former Kilmarnock striker Greg Stewart after Birmingham release

Greg Stewart has today been released by English Championship side Birmingham City.

And the striker, who is now a free agent, looks set to pen his deal at Ibrox for next season.

The Blues released three players including Stewart, Tomasz Kuszczak and Cheike Ndoye.

And they thanked Stewart for his time at St Andrew's.

Kilmarnock fans react to Rangers game ban for manager Steve Clarke

A club statement said: "Scottish midfielder Stewart, 29, moved to Blues from Dundee in August 2016.

"Having made 21 appearances during the 2016/17 campaign, he has spent the last two seasons out on loan north of the border with Aberdeen, then Kilmarnock and Aberdeen again."

Stewart scored eight goals in 16 games during his loan at Rugby Park earlier this season but, but he has failed to set the heather alight at Pittodrie.

He's managed just two in 20 for Derek McInnes' side.
