Rangers midfielder could be offered a way out of Ibrox as side 'plot signing swoop'

Raith Rovers are reportedly interested in signing Rangers youngster Josh McPake after it emerged the winger could have his Ibrox contract "ripped up" at the end of the season.

The 20-year-old from Coatbridge has played just once for the Gers' first team back in 2019 and after disappointing loan spells down south with the likes of English League Two sides Morecambe and now Tranmere Rovers, McPake's future is uncertain.

Earlier this week Football Scotland reported McPake could have his contract ripped up amid concerns about his attitude.

McPake spent much of last season at Harrogate Town in EFL League Two and also briefly at Greenock Morton. An ill-fated move to Morecambe in EFL League Two followed before the latest switch to Tranmere.

And now Football Insider claim Scottish Championship side Raith Rovers - who are currently on the hunt for a new manager following John McGlynn's move to Falkirk - are interested in bringing McPake to Kirkcaldy next season.

The move to Micky Mellon's Rovers has turned sour for McPake (Tranmere Rovers)

McPake still has two years left on his Ibrox deal after signing a contract extension in January, but if Rangers are prepared to pay him up to get him off the books, that could pave the way for Rovers to pounce.

The former Braidhurst High School pupil has first-team experience in the Championship, having been on loan at Morton last season and spending an injury-hit campaign at Dundee in 2019/20.

His Rangers debut and only first team outing came in a Europa League first round qualifying match against St Joseph's in July 2019.
