Rangers MD Stewart Robertson denies Celtic title motivation as he urges clubs to 'stand up and be counted'

Stewart Robertson has denied Rangers' crusade against the SPFL is rooted in stopping Celtic's quest for nine in a row.

The Ibrox managing director insists he's had positive responses to Thursday's dossier release and urged clubs to "stand up and be counted" ahead of next week's EGM.

Scotland's 42 senior clubs head for the ballot box on Tuesday to decide whether the league's governing body will be put on trial over the controversial vote to end the season.

Rangers' accusations centre on allegedly misleading clubs over a £10million liability to broadcasters, four cease and desist letters issued to Ibrox from legal advisor Rod McKenzie and a letter sent to UEFA claiming the majority of teams were in favour of ending the season - six days before the vote.

Robertson is adamant the ongoing feud is not fuelled by rivalry, with Celtic set to be awarded the Premiership title with a 13 point advantage over their neighbours.

When asked if Rangers would be pursuing an inquiry if the scenario was flipped, Robertson told talkSPORT : "This isn't about Rangers and Celtic, it's nothing to do with that.

"This is about the governance of the game.

"This is us trying to make things better going forward and it's absolutely nothing to do with Rangers and Celtic.

"This is about us trying to make things better for the long term future of the game."

Robertson concedes outside observers may be left aghast by the unedifying episode, which has played out bitterly in the public eye over the past month.

However, he believes Rangers ' reputation would have suffered had they not pursued it.

And with just a few days until the vote, he's called on clubs to push the investigation over the line.

Robertson added: "I get that from the outside people will think: 'Jeezo, what's going on up there?'

"However, I believe, firmly, that sometimes you have to take a step back to go forward. This is what we're doing here.

"But if I said nothing about this and we said nothing about it as a club, that reflects badly on us.

"If we think something's wrong we should try and address it. I know that other clubs are saying to me privately that this isn't right.

"We're now at a stage where we need the other clubs to stand up and be counted to see if we can get the independent investigation that we are striving to achieve."
