Rangers match provides opportunity after positive performances admits boss

Derek McInnes insists there's positives his side can take into tonight's clash with Rangers.

Kilmarnock host Michael Beale's side in the Scottish Premiership, and they'll be hoping to bounce back after consecutive 2-0 defeats from Celtic.

But despite the results, the Rugby Park side didn't disgrace themselves against the league leaders and gave it a good go at Hampden in Saturday's Viaplay Cup semi-final.

But now McInnes insists the Ayrshire men have to follow that through and take it into tonight's game in front of their own fans.

He said: “Yeah we can take confidence from the progress, there’s no real pleasure in losing games but by the same token we do take a lot of positives from the level of performance in both games.

"Particularly the game at Hampden, and getting the balance right between being defensively sound and not allowing very good players the space to operate, but still trying to carry a threat yourself.

“We tried to get the balance of that right at the weekend and we gave ourselves a chance. We’re going to have to show those qualities again against Rangers.

“We are at home. We have to start dealing with league business and get points on the board. This game presents the chance to get some points and hopefully we’re good enough to do that.”

He added: “Everybody is looking forward to it and it’s a good game for us. Sunday-Monday you still have a bit of that hangover, you’re still disappointed with the outcome of Saturday.

“But you start to get your focus and get your teeth into the next opponent and that’s the job, to pick yourself up and go again. We’ve got a really good game against a very good opponent, with a good level of player who will test us and demand that concentration from us.

“If we can get a positive result we can get a lot of benefit from that.”

Killie will be without Innes Cameron and Jeriel Dorsett who both have hamstring injuries, and Lewis Mayo is ineligible to face his parent club.

Ben Chrisene (knee), Liam Donnelly (calf) and Fraser Murray are all injury doubts.
