Rangers manager Steven Gerrard 'unhappy' after Ryan Porteous 'bad loser' jibe

Steven Gerrard was left fuming after Hibernian defender Ryan Porteous allegedly branded Rangers captain James Tavernier a "bad loser" in the 2-2 draw between the sides at Easter Road.

The Rangers boss was unhappy at a number of challenges by Porteous and defensive partner Paul Hanlon, despite both players being booked in the first half.

Gerrard felt Hanlon had used an elbow to prevent Ianis Hagi from reaching the ball in the opening period and was critical of Porteous' conduct following an apparent comment made towards defensive adversary Tavernier.

Substitutes from both sides were involved in an altercation at half time and several Rangers players appeared to refuse Porteous ' offer of a handshake at the end of the game.

But Gerrard revealed a comment made by the 21-year-old defender was the source of his ire.

"I think there could have been more action taken. But that’s out of my control," he said.

“I didn’t see the (Porteous) incident initially. I think Porteous was saying that Tav’s a bad loser which I think is a bit cheap coming from him.

"He got sent off for a really bad tackle when he was losing 3-0 against us here last season.

Hibs have played their part in a really good game today. We’re not happy with the outcome but there’s no need to panic."

Jack Ross was also asked about the alleged red card incident after the game, but had an entirely different view, simply laughing and saying "no".
