Rangers manager odds latest sees ex-Hamilton boss slip down list

Former Hamilton Accies manager Alex Neil is no longer the favourite to be the next manager of Rangers after ex-Ibrox midfielder Giovanni van Bronckhorst was installed as the new leading contender.

Yesterday, Neil's odds plummeted from 16/1 to being the 5/2 favourite as news of Steven Gerrard's imminent departure from the Rangers hot-seat to Aston Villa broke.

Twenty-four hours later, Neil has slipped down the list of those being tipped for the job and bookmakers McBookie currently have him as fifth favourite at 7/1 behind van Bronckhorst (2/1), Russell Martin (3/1), Derek McInnes (4/1) and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard (5/1).

Gerrard looks set to leave the Scottish champions in the coming hours after reportedly agreeing a deal with Villa chiefs over dinner last night.

Neil - who spent 10 years at Accies, becoming player manager in 2013 and leading them to promotion to the Scottish Premiership during his first season in charge - left Preston North End by mutual consent in March and recently accepted a temporary role with Crewe Alexandra's coaching staff in English League One.

But the latest odds would suggest he won't be managing in Scotland again anytime soon.
