Rangers manager Jeff Banister: 'If we're not paying attention to what happened in Santa Fe, shame on us'

CHICAGO _ Rangers manager Jeff Banister, whose parents both worked in schools systems outside Houston, took time out of his daily press briefing to address the Santa Fe high school shooting Friday.

"If we're not paying attention to what happened in Santa Fe, shame on us," Banister said before the Rangers beat the White Sox, 12-5. "This is where I grew up. I still have friends who work and live there and whose kids go to school there. If we bury our heads and don't pay attention and in two weeks we forget about this, shame on us. This is not just another statistic."

Jesse Chavez picked up the win in relief for the Rangers (18-28) after starter Matt Moore failed to protect a six-run lead. Moore allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts in 32/3 innings.

The Rangers shelled White Sox starter Carson Fulmer, who allowed eight earned runs on three hits and five walked in 2 innings.

Shin-Soo Choo (2-for-3, two runs scored) had four RBIs, and Jurickson Profar (2-for-4, two runs scored) and Joey Gallo (3-for-5) drove in three runs apiece for the Rangers.

Jose Abreu and Matt Davidson each drove in a pair of runs for the White Sox (11-30).
