Rangers make sly Celtic dig with Scott Arfield v Midtjylland 'goal of the day' Twitter post

Just hours after their rivals’ defeat in Denmark, Rangers didn’t miss the chance to poke fun at Celtic.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were dumped out of the Champions League by FC Midtjylland, losing 3-2 after extra-time.

Despite Callum McGregor’s stunning opener, the hosts hit back through Awer Mabil and Raphael Onyedika to book their spot in the next round.

And Rangers’ choice for their “Goal of the Day” Twitter post was likely no accident.

The Ibrox club shared a clip of Scott Arfield scoring against the Danish outfit from 2019.

Steven Gerrard’s men came up against Midtjylland in the Europa League qualifiers that year and racked up the goals as they took care of the Danes.

They ran out 4-2 winners away from home, with Arfield netting their final goal with 20 minutes to go after Alfredo Morelos, Joe Aribo and Nikola Katic had found the target.

A Morelos double either side of a Sheyi Ojo goal gave them a 3-1 win in the home leg to give the Light Blues a 7-3 win on aggregate.

And they decided to remind fans of Arfield’s first leg effort this morning.

Rangers are still in Champions League contention and will face Malmo of Sweden in their third qualifying round tie.

The Allsvenskan outfit beat HJK 3-2 on aggregate after last night’s 2-2- draw in Helsinki to set up a date in Glasgow.
