Rangers loanee nets Partick Thistle winner as Queen's Park obtain first Championship point

Cole McKinnon netted a Partick Thistle winner on the road at Dundee as the Rangers loanee sealed an early 3-2 statement for the Jags.

It was a fantastic first 50 minutes for manager Ian McCall. Aidan Fitzpatrick rifled in their opener and Steven Lawless piled the pressure on Dundee by doubling their lead ahead of the interval. McKinnon then used his head to score his first league goal after joining from Rangers but a late home fightback came forward.

Cammy Kerr got one back for the Dee and Tyler French made it a nervy end but Thistle held on to make it a perfect start to another second tier season. Queen's Park meanwhile earned a point up at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, drawing 1-1 in their first Championship match since winning promotion from League One, coming up against last season's Premiership play-off runners up. It was a great start for manager Owen Coyle who's side took an early lead.

A winner wasn't found but it is still a positive start to life in the second tier for the Spiders, who welcome Ayr United to Ochilview next Friday.

Thistle meanwhile are back in action next Saturday against Hamilton Accies.
