Rangers loanee George Edmundson facing injury blow as Derby consider surgery option

Rangers outcast George Edmundson could be out for the rest of the season as he suffered a hernia while on loan at Derby County.

The big defender has a hernia problem that will keep him out for between two and three weeks but could lead to surgery as the Rams consider their options.

They are fighting relegation in the Championship after a tough season under rookie manager Wayne Rooney.

The Manchester United and England legend brought in Edmundson on loan in January after he was frozen out at Ibrox.

The centre-back and fellow Rangers star Jordan Jones were caught breaching lockdown rules and handed a seven game ban by the SFA.

Both were loaned out and while Jones could be set for a permanent move to Sunderland things are more complex for Edmundson after he suffered an injury.

Rooney told the Derby Telegraph : "Before George came to us he had surgery on a hernia and he has a hernia on the other side.

"It is a decision we have to make whether he has surgery on it or not, but I think he will be out for two or three weeks."

Edmundson hasn't played since limping off in a clash with Millwall on March 13 and it would seem unlikely that Derby will look to make his move permanent.
