Rangers loan star Jason Holt suffers injury blow to leave Joey Barton reeling

Fleetwood Town boss Joey Barton admits he's reeling after Rangers loan star Jason Holt suffered a potential season-ending knee injury.

The 26-year-old has been a roaring success during his time with the League One side but his campaign could be over after suffering going down in agony against Accrington Stanley.

And Barton admits he's worried about the on-loan Rangers star who will undergo tests after being stretchered off during the 1-0 win.

Holt has made 36 appearances for Fleetwood in all competitions since being allowed to leave Ibrox by Steven Gerrard last summer.

And his former Ibrox team-mate admits Holt's setback is real blow for his side who are still pushing for promotion.

Barton told Fleetwood Today : “I don’t want to speculate but I’ve been there and made those tackles as a player – it usually opens up your medial ligaments.

“You don’t ever want to see a player stretchered from the pitch but hopefully it is the better side of whatever we think it is.

"If it is on the worst side, then it probably puts him out for the season.

“He has been outstanding for us – a real team man, team player.

“I said in the dressing room at half-time, ‘Let’s make sure we get the three points for Jason'.

“Hopefully the scans come back good because he has been a credit to his profession.”

Holt spoke last week about how he is loving life under Barton but now faces a sweat as he awaits results on his injury.

The former Hearts star, who has one year left on his deal at Rangers, was brought to Ibrox by former boss Mark Warburton in the summer of 2015.
