Rangers-linked Jack Wilshere 'turns down' Australia move as he weighs up next move

Jack Wilshere has turned down the opportunity to move to Australia and is mulling over a number of options, according to a report.

The former Arsenal midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Rangers since being released by West Ham, although there has never been any suggestion that a deal was on the cards.

The Athletic report that Wilshere has 'several proposals' from various countries but an agreement isn't close just yet.

And he is willing to hold out for the MLS season to be completed and get a move to America where he'll be able to get a full pre-season under his belt before the 2021 campaign begins next year.

The US top flight is approaching the playoff stage of their set-up and clubs will shortly begin preparing for next season.

Many feel the slower pace of the MLS would help Wilshere get back to his best while clubs in the UK would be looking for a player to come in and hit the ground running.

Rangers seem unlikely to make a move for the 28-year-old with Steven Gerrard having so many options in the middle of the park, and new boy Bongani Zungu making an impressive debut on Sunday.

Wilshere knows a decision on his next club is critical after a poor spell at West Ham where he struggled to make an impact.

Speaking over the weekend, he said: "I think the good thing about when I went to West Ham was that they brought in Pellegrini who tried to make us a team that had the ball. Obviously that didn’t work out for him.

"At Bournemouth they had a manager who wanted to try and play and I had a really good year there.

"When I went to West Ham, I didn’t know it was going to be how it was.

"With my experience now, I’d be silly to go and sign for a team who are in a similar position to West Ham.

"When there is a relegation battle, teams want to nick a point and stay up, nick a goal and try and defend. That’s not the type of player I am."
