Rangers 'lined up' for Liverpool friendly as Steven Gerrard set for Anfield return

Scottish Premiership champions Rangers are set to take on Liverpool at Anfield in a friendly, according to a report.

The Ibrox side are still to formalise some details of their pre-season plans although a glamour clash at home against Arsenal has been scheduled for July 17 to kick off their 150th anniversary celebrations.

Last month it was reported in Danish media that Superliga side SonderjyskE had organised a camp in Portugal with Steven Gerrard's side set to be an invitee.

However that was when Portugal was on the UK Government's 'green list' for travel - and the country has since been downgraded to amber.

Now fan website This Is Anfield claim a match against Gerrard's former club is being organised for July.

Around 10,000 fans were permitted to attend the Merseyside team's final home game of last season.

And although the total unlocking date of June 21 has been pushed back by a fortnight down south there's still a chance it could be used as a tester for a full-capacity Anfield.

It would also mean backroom staff such as Gary McAllister and Michael Beale could return to their former side, while Ryan Kent was signed from Liverpool on an initial loan in 2018 followed by a permanent £7m transfer.
