Rangers line-up vs Coventry City as Steven Gerrard goes strong with Morelos leading the line

Steven Gerrard has named a strong side for tonight's pre-season friendly with Coventry City.

Alfredo Morelos leads the line with Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi and Joe Aribo in support once again.

George Edmundson and Connor Goldson remain in the heart of defence and Glen Kamara and Ryan Jack will play in the centre of midfield.

The Rangers XI is as follows: McGregor, Tavernier, Goldson, Edmundson, Barisic, Kamara, Jack, Aribo, Hagi, Kent, Morelos.

Bench:  McLaughlin, Bassey, Helander, Murphy, Patterson, Barker, Stewart, McCrorie, Barjonas, Arfield, McPake.

Coventry City have only just begun preperations for their upcoming English Championship campaign, returning to training ten days ago.

Mark Robins' side were crowned League One champions last campaign, but the boss feels that tonight's match with Rangers could catch his players cold.

He admitted: “We’ve been training for about 10 days now.

“The game itself probably comes too soon for us, but when you get the chance to play at Ibrox, it's too good an opportunity to turn down.

"Everyone is looking forward to it. It’s not often you get the chance to do it and obviously up in Scotland you don’t see that much of the teams but you know the history and it lets us see where we’re at, at this stage.

"They’re a week away from their season starting so they’re going to be a lot further on than us, so we will be playing two teams in the game.”

Rangers v Friday will kick off at 5.15pm, with full coverage on Premier Sports.
