Rangers 'likely to sign' Swiss striker Cedric Itten from St Gallen

As St Gallen are reported to be on the verge of bringing former Rangers striker Florian Kamberi back to Switzerland, it's believed that another striker could be heading in the opposite direction.

It's claimed that St Gallen will sell Cedric Itten to the Ibrox club, with Steven Gerrard eager to bring in reinforcements upfront.

Alfredo Morelos' future looks uncertain, with reported interest from the likes of Lille and Bologna. Jermain Defoe, meanwhile, is currently sidelined after picking up an injury during pre-season.

Florian Kamberi made nine appearances for Gerrard's side after arriving on loan from Hibs last season, but the Scottish Sun today report that the 25-year-old has rejected the terms offered by the Ibrox club for a permanent move and will instead join St Gallen.

Swiss website Tagblatt reports that St Gallen will "probably" sell Itten to Rangers.

The 23-year-old centre-forward has been capped twice by the Swiss national side, scoring three goals in those two games.

Itten scored a hat-trick in his side's 6-0 win over Neuchatel Xamax on Friday, but was left out of the 3-1 defeat against Young Boys despite the club confirming that he was not injured.
