Rangers legend Stuart McCall blasts alleged Ibrox COVID breachers as he claims careers could be over

Former Rangers caretaker boss Stuart McCall has hammered the Ibrox side’s alleged COVID-19 rule breakers for “lacking common sense” as he predicted their careers in Govan could be over.

Claims a small group of Gers’ stars breached current coronavirus guidelines to attend a gathering in Glasgow are being investigated by the Premiership leaders after rumours began circulating on social media.

The allegations, which are said to centre around a party, drew the ire of Nicola Sturgeon on Monday afternoon, with the First Minister having to restrain herself from “using expletives” as she urged the game to “get its house in order”.

It comes just months after Rangers pair George Edmundson and Jordan Jones were exiled by the Ibrox club for being caught at a party at an address in the city, leading to both receiving lengthy bans and later being sent out on loan to Derby County and Sunderland respectively.

Gers legend McCall, who briefly managed the side in 2015 after making more than 250 appearances for the club as a player, was left furious by the alleged breach, blasting the accused players as “the thickest people on the planet” if they are found guilty.

And he added they had let fans and manager Steven Gerrard down with their actions, telling BBC Scotland’s Sportsound: “I’m absolutely astounded especially because it has happened recently with the two players so you can imagine the meetings they have already had at the football club.

“Yes it looks like they were young players but you saw the punishments the other two lads have had, you have a European game coming up on Thursday, a chance to win the title.

“Honestly, they must be the thickest people on the planet because it defies sense, common sense.

“I’m sure every Rangers fan feels let down, more so Steven Gerrard as much as anyone because you’re actually disrespecting himself and the football club by going and breaking the rules; it’s crazy.

He continued: “It could be the end of some of their careers there.”
