Rangers legend raves over Kieran Tierney as Arsenal star's Scotland contribution labelled 'absolutely brilliant'

Muirhouse's Kieran Tierney has earned the seal of approval from Rangers legend Ally McCoist after his outstanding block in Scotland's 2-0 win over Moldova.

Goals from Nathan Patterson and Che Adams secured a World Cup qualifying Group F victory, which seals a play-off spot for the tournament in Qatar next winter.

Win those matches in 2022 and Steve Clarke's side will take the nation to football's biggest stage for the first time since 1998.

Rangers icon McCoist couldn't help but notice Tierney's big contribution while the game was at 2-0. Moldova won a penalty, which goalkeeper Craig Gordon saved, but the Arsenal star got back to deny a certain goal.

"That's absolutely brilliant from Tierney, absolutely brilliant," beamed McCoist while on Sky Sports commentary. "The Moldova forward thinks he's got a tap-in.

"Then Tierney comes from nowhere. Oh, that's brilliant, it really is. We defended pretty well in the game.

"It was, dare I say it, a comfortable victory. I know we had the scare with the penalty which Craig Gordon did well to save. And Tierney did outstandingly well to get back and make a challenge.

"It's a deserved victory and we've got the play-off spot we set out to get."
