Rangers legend Paul Gascoigne was as good as Maradona claims former teammate

Rangers legend Paul Gascoigne was as talented as Diego Maradona and Marco van Basten, according to one former teammate.

The English midfielder became an Ibrox hero in his three seasons with the club, winning two league titles in that time.

Gazza joined Rangers after a disappointing spell in Italy with Lazio , but his talent was never in question.

Former teammate Luigi Corino told LaLazioSiamoNoi : "Gascoigne is the best player I've seen in my life.

"It's a shame that injuries hindered him, but he belongs in that list of players who are in a different category, like Maradona or Van Basten."

Despite only making 47 appearances in three seasons, Gascoigne is fondly remembered by Lazio fans, not least for scoring a derby winner against hated rivals Roma.

He famously had his leg broken in training after a collision with a young Alessandro Nesta, meaning he made only four appearances in his final season in Serie A.

His spell at Rangers brought 30 goals in 74 league appearances, before he joined Middlesbrough for a £3.45m fee in 1998.
