Rangers legend Gazza makes emotional return to Italian I'm a Celebrity after dislocating shoulder

Paul Gascoigne has returned to Celebrity Island after he dislocated his shoulder and spent a week in hospital.

The 53-year-old Rangers legend burst into tears as he was reunited with his campmates after being allowed to come back to the Italian reality show.

Gazza had to be sedated and given oxygen so his shoulder could be "popped back place" after the injury he sustained completing an assault course task to win meatballs and spaghetti.

He has no been allowed to carry on with the show, filmed off Honduras, with a shoulder brace and some strict safety guidelines, The Mirror reports.

Producers on Isola dei Famosi, which loosely translates to Celebrity Island Island, held talks with insurers before the former footballer was allowed back.

He has now been treated to a proper bed rather than sleeping on the floor like his campmates, and he will not be taking part in any more trials.

Gazza was greeted with kisses and hugs from his campmates, including former air hostess Daniela Martani, with whom he has grown close.

He said: "I've missed you all but I haven't missed not eating. I'm ready to go again and I'm OK."

The show's co-host Massimiliano Rosolino explained: "It's been a tough few days for Paul.

"It has been very intense for him. He took a knock which was a lot more serious than we initially thought. But no one, no one, can leave Paul Gascoigne on the bench."

He added: "For Paul there will be no further trials and he won't be sleeping on the floor. He will have a proper camp bed so as tempting as it is, hands off, it's for Paul only."

Gazza had been competing on the show to honour his late nephew Jay Lennon Gascoigne, who died in 2016.

His death was due to an accidental overdose triggered by 'Pure OCD', a rare disorder where he was overwhelmed with intrusive thoughts.

And if he wins, Gazza said he's going to donate the mega prize to a charity founded to commemorate Jay's memory.

He told Italian magazine TV Sorrisi e Canzone: "If I win, I will give the prize money to a charity founded by my family in memory of my nephew."

Gazza’s sister and Jay’s mum Anna Kerrigan gushed over her "amazing brother" for taking part in the series.

She said: "Really proud of my amazing brother.

"Winner all the way and to put the cherry on top of the cake if he wins he is giving the money to our Jay’s charity.

"Sleep tonight well Paul as tomorrow you’re jumping out of a plane and surviving on an island with all your Geordie supporters wishing you well. Love you little brother."
