Rangers legend Fernando Ricksen's funeral procession to drive past Ibrox as fans given chance to say goodbye

Former Rangers star Fernando Ricksen's funeral procession will drive past Ibrox

Fans will be given the chance to pay their respects to the Dutch international player, who passed away aged 43 after losing his six-year battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday (September 25) at Wellington Church in the Hillhead area of Glasgow, before a private family service.

A Rangers statement on Saturday morning read: "Rangers can today confirm that Fernando Ricksen’s funeral will be next Wednesday, 25th September.

"Rangers and the Rangers Former Players Benevolent Club will release further details in due course on behalf of the friends and family of Fernando."

Speaking to the Scottish Sun , the Dutch star's close friend and Rangers Legends manager Stan Gordon revealed the plans for the day.

The Rangers Legends manager said: “I was at a meeting with Rangers yesterday about the plans.

"The plan is for the hearse to go past Ibrox, which I think is very touching.

"There will be thousands of people wanting to pay their respects so it makes sense.

"I've been speaking to a lot of ex-players who will be at the funeral - Marco Negri, Jorg Albertz, Arthur Numan and Nacho Novo.

"Other ex-teammates are desperate to be there to pay their respects and it’s all about booking flights to make sure they are there. It will be an emotional day."
