Rangers legend condemns Arsenal's Matteo Guendouzi over 'embarrassing' wage boast

Ally McCoist has criticised Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi over claims that he boasted about his wages in their 2-1 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion.

According to the Daily Mail, Guendouzi spent the game boasting to Brighton players about the financial disparity between the two sets of players.

The 21-year-old was also seen grabbing Brighton's Neal Maupay by the throat.

Rangers legend McCoist was unimpressed. Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: "I'll be honest with you, and I've probably been involved in more 'banter' for want of a better expression with team-mates and opposition than most, and I can honestly tell you never, ever, ever do I recall any conversations being about finance because that's just absolute nonsense.

"It's absolute rubbish. It's poor. Ach, it's embarrassing. I think that's absolutely embarrassing, I really do.

"You know what it's like in sport, in the heat of the moment. You'd say things and argue with each other and call each other whatever it may be, but at the end of the day nothing like that.

"I find that absolutely embarrassing, I really do if that's the case. And I tell you something else, I think he's very, very fortunate not to have the authorities actually on his case for what he did.

"Listen, I know in the grand scheme of things it wasn't a massive offense, but as soon as you lift your hands and touch an opposition player you're in trouble.

"You run the risk of getting a red card or action taken against you so I think he's very, very fortunate."
