Rangers legend Brian Laudrup pops into Larkhall pub for lunch with his son

Larkhall punters were excited to see a Rangers legend in the town at the weekend.

Pub-goers at the Q Sports Lounge, on Church Street, were stunned when nineties fan favourite Brian Laudrup walked in and took a seat for a spot of lunch.

The Danish international was visiting a friend with his son Nikolai on Saturday, and was happy to pose for photographs during his brief visit.

Martin Black, who owns the Q Sports Lounge, said: “We are fortunate to have had a few big names in Q Sports Lounge over the years, such as Lorenzo Amoruso and others, so we were delighted to welcome Brian Laudrup at the weekend.

“Brian popped in to try our food with his son and a friend of his who lives locally.

“It genuinely was a pleasure to meet them both, and we look forward to seeing them again when they are next over.”

Laudrup enjoyed an illustrious football career, playing as a winger, forward and midfielder over a 14-year period which saw him star for Bayern Munch, Fiorentina, Rangers, Chelsea and Copenhagen to name but a few.

He  also played 82 matches and scored 21 goals for the Danish national team, and was a vital part of the international teams which won UEFA Euro 1992 and the 1995 Confederations Cup.

Laudrup won the Danish Football Player of the Year award a record four times. He was named by FIFA as the fifth-best player in the world in 1992 and was named by Pelé as one of the top 125 greatest living footballers at the FIFA 100 ceremony in March 2004, alongside his older brother Michael Laudrup.

Joining Rangers Football Club for £2.3 million in 1994, he made an immediate impact with fans and later described his time at Ibrox as “the best four years of his career”.
