Alloa striker Alan Trouten is excited by the prospect of Rangers legend Barry Ferguson taking over as manager, if the rumours are true.
But Trouten, 35, hopes whoever takes over from ex-Celtic hero Peter Grant at the Indodrill keeps him up front as the Cambuslang man bids to fire Alloa back up to the Championship.
Ferguson took Kelty Hearts past Brechin City and into League Two for the first time in their history, but then stepped down as manager, with intense speculation linking him with the Alloa hot seat.
Veteran Trouten, who also starred for Albion Rovers, Airdrie United, Clyde and Queen's Park, said: “I’ve seen the rumour as well, online and on social media.
“Barry Ferguson has had an unbelievable career, I’ve watched him play a lot and he was a very good player.
“He had a very good season with Kelty and got them in the league for the first time in their history, so hopefully if it is him that’s appointed – and you know how quickly football can change – he can help improve us as players and as a team.
“If it is him, I’m looking forward to playing under him and seeing how we get on.
“If it’s somebody else it will be the exact same.”
Whoever takes over, Trouten says it’s a massive season for Alloa in League One, and is eager to play his part.

He said: “We need to improve. Last season wasn’t good enough and that obviously showed with the league table and us finishing bottom.
“We only won five games all season in the league, which isn’t good enoughc, and we got what we deserved by finishing bottom.
“We need to rebuild. Hopefully there will be a new manager announced soon, we can get together, strengthen, and hopefully we can challenge at the right end of the table this season.
“Every season is a big season. I want to do well personally and be part of the team.
“I want to contribute, score goals, and assist – that’s my role in the team and that’s what I need to do.
“I don’t think I did that enough last season, I think everybody struggled and I don’t think anybody at Alloa can say they had a good season.
“But from a personal point of view I want to kick on and have another successful season in my career.”
Trouten says League One will be a difficult league for any team to get out of.

He said: “I don’t think it will be easy; a lot of people see teams that are relegated and automatically make them favourites to bounce straight back, but I’ve played there before and it’s not an easy league.
“You’ve got Queen’s Park getting promoted who have a big backing behind them, they’re obviously full-time, them and Airdrie, so it’s going to be difficult.
“Then you’ve got Cove Rangers, who are very well run as well, so I think a lot of people think it’s going to be easy, but I can assure them it’s not.
“We know how tough it’s going to be, but we need the new manager in place, and we need a squad assembled to challenge at the right end of the league.
“I think when you move down the league your first thought is to get the club back to the level you were at, so it’s massive for us all, to get the club back to the Championship.”
