Rangers legend Barry Ferguson's Kelty Hearts set for Scottish Cup TV date with Auchinleck Talbot

Barry Ferguson's Kelty Hearts will face Junior Football giants Auchinleck Talbot in a Scottish Cup telly showdown.

The first round tie has today been selected for live coverage by the BBC Scotland channel.

It will be played on Friday, September 20 with a 7.05pm kick-off.

Talbot starred on the small screen last season when they caused an upset with a 1-0 win over Ayr United at Beechwood Park before losing 4-0 to Premiership big guns Hearts in the fifth round.

Now Tommy Sloan's men will continue their journey on this season's road to Hampden with a trip to New Central Park in Fife.

Rangers legend Ferguson is in charge at Kelty who are favourites to win the Lowland League title and earn a crack at promotion to the SPFL through the play-offs.

Scottish FA commercial director Chris Rawlings said: “We’re delighted to work with BBC Scotland to bring live televised coverage of the William Hill Scottish Cup first round fixture between Kelty Hearts and Auchinleck Talbot.

“It is a historic moment for the competition, bringing the early stages of the cup to a national audience for the first time.

“Clubs competing in the early round will enjoy greater exposure and it will be a memorable night for both as they go head to head in what promises to be an exciting first round.”

Grigor Stirling, commissioning executive (sport) said: “BBC Scotland has a long association with the Scottish Cup, and we’re delighted that our comprehensive coverage of this season’s competition begins with such a mouthwatering tie.”
