Cambuslang Rangers were joined by Glasgow Rangers legend Andy Goram as they unveiled their tribute to Walter Smith at the weekend.
The Ibrox icon had ties to the club with his father being a supporter who took Walter to games at Somervell Park as a youngster, while Smith’s nephew Scott McManus is a former Camby player.
Ahead of Saturday’s win over Ashfield, Camby players and staff posed with a tribute banner which will now be mounted at Somervell Park in Walter’s memory.
They also held a two minute’s applause in memory of Smith and former player and St Roch's manager Paul Kelly, who had a short spell at Camby. Paul tragically died from Covid complications at the age of 57 last week.
Co-boss Billy Campbell was joined by their goalkeeping coach Goram – nicknamed The Goalie – at the unveiling.
And Campbell said: “We had two minutes’ applause for both parties and our thoughts are with Walter and Paul’s families.
”It’s a terrible situation and a tough couple of weeks. Paul was part of the team at the club in previous years and it’s a real shame.
“The whole of the West of Scotland League stopped to remember Paul and it’s the least we could do.
“Having the sad news with Walter the week before, it’s been a really sad time.
“The club has made a wee banner in memory of Walter. We will put it up at the club, out of respect to his connection to the club.
“The Goalie had a tough time last week with Walter’s funeral, but he was back with us on Saturday and it’s good to have him back.
“It’s been a struggle for him because he was so close to Walter.”
