Rangers 'leading chase' for Michy Batshuayi transfer after 'Philippe Clement pitch'

Rangers are reportedly leading the chase to sign Michy Batshuayi on a short-term deal.

It's claimed the Belgium international could sign on at Ibrox after a transfer pitch from Philippe Clement.

The Scottish Sun reports striker Batshuayi, 30, is set to depart Fenerbahce and Rangers are among clubs lining up to offer him a deal.

It's reported that Clement "made a pitch" to sign Batshuayi with talks expected to take place in the next 24 hours over a shock move for the former Chelsea forward.

The striker is thought to have no shortage of suitors with Everton also credited with an interest in Batshuayi who failed to agree fresh terms at Fenerbahce.

Batshuayi has featured 52 times for his country - scoring 27 times - and counts a host of elite sides in his former clubs.

The striker - who is a Premier League winner - has played for the likes of Chelsea, Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and Valencia in his career to date.

This season, Batshuayi has played 21 times for Fenerbahce, scoring eight times and providing three assists.

Clement previously confirmed Rangers would look to sign a new striker in the January window after injury issues for Danilo and Kemar Roofe.

Brazilian forward Danilo required surgery on a knee injury suffered in December and could be sidelined for a significant spell.

Therefore, Clement confirmed a forward would be a priority this month. Speaking previously, he said: "Yes. It will be one of the priorities."

Meanwhile, Sam Lammers is set to leave Rangers before the end of the week. It's believed the Dutchman is close to joining FC Utrecht on loan.

A deal is said to be edging towards competition and could be officially announced within the next 48 hours, with the 26-year-old returning to his homeland.
