Rangers launch Alfredo Morelos 'dive' yellow card appeal after 'bang out of order' caution

Rangers have appealed the yellow card shown to Alfredo Morelos for simulation in the 1-0 win over Livingston which edged the Ibrox side closer to the Scottish Premiership title.

The Colombian appeared to have been felled by Lions' stopper Max Stryjek as he bore down on goal in the area but referee John Beaton booked the striker for diving.

It prompted an apoplectic reaction from manager Steven Gerrard, who stormed onto the pitch at the Tony Macaroni stadium to confront the official at half-time - only to receive a red card for his protests, forcing him to watch the rest of the victory from the stands.

SFA rules state that a yellow card can be appealed, unlike most on-field infractions that result in a caution.

The decision has been fast-tracked by the association's disciplinary process, meaning the outcome is likely to be published by the end of Friday.

Morelos would go on to net the winner in the second half to put Rangers within touching distance of the league trophy and opening up the possibility of confirming their name being inscribed on it with a win at the home of rivals Celtic next weekend.

But Gerrard was left furious by the call, which he described as "bang out of order," adding it was a "stonewaller" when quizzed over whether his side should have been awarded a spot kick.

"What I can't stand for at this level is three people making the same mistake. They all had clear views of it. I could see it and I'm the furthest away," he said.

"They all got it wrong together - I can't have that. I asked for an explanation and [Beaton] refused to speak to me. You are talking about officials at a top level of the game."
