Rangers kid Kai Kennedy earns incredible praise as John Robertson compares 'crowd pleaser' to Davie Cooper

Inverness Caledonian Thistle boss John Robertson has heaped praise on Kai Kennedy and compared him to Rangers and Celtic legends.

The teenage talent is in talks with Rangers over a new deal and on loan at Inverness Caley Thistle until January.

And he's impressed his manager in the Highlands, with Hearts hero Robertson describing him as a 'crowd pleaser' and suggestions he's like some of the greatest wingers Scotland has ever seen.

He's compared the Ibrox kid to Rangers legends Willie Johnston and Davie Cooper as well as Celtic's Jimmy Johnstone.

The incredible comparisons are a hint at how highly-rated Kennedy is within Scottish football and why Rangers are wanting to tie him down on a new deal, with Steven Gerrard believed to be a big fan.

It had looked like the 18-year-old would be leaving Ibrox on a free next summer but Glasgow Live exclusively revealed fresh talks had began last week.

And Robertson told the Press and Journal: “I’ll show my age – I think he goes back to the tanner ball player we know in Scotland, such as Jimmy Johnstone, Willie Johnston and Davie Cooper.

“He beats people for fun and gets out of tight situations – he’s a crowd pleaser.

“Even in training when we see him getting the ball, he excites us. He goes past players and we think he’s going to lose it, then the next minute he wriggles away and he has created something.

“Kai at times looks like a wee ragamuffin as he just bounces about, but he goes past people and excites people. That’s the type of player we wanted to come.

“He suits our style of play, which was a big reason why Rangers let him come to us. They know we attempt to play good football on the ground.

“Having someone with Kai’s physique, it was important he played in a team that suited his style.”
