Rangers kid delighted for 'great wee player' Alex Lowry after Scottish Cup debut parallel

Kai Kennedy knows the thrill of making his Rangers debut in the Scottish Cup, so he could relate to some of the joy Alex Lowry experienced on his Ibrox bow last week.

Eighteen-year-old Lowry made a surprise introduction after 15 minutes in Rangers' Scottish Cup fourth round tie at Ibrox against Stirling Albion when he came on to replace the injured Ianis Hagis - who has since been ruled out for the rest of the season.

And he went on to cap a great performance with the opening goal in a dream debut.

Kennedy made his first team debut for Rangers a year younger than Lowry in a 2-0 Scottish Cup fourth round win over Stranraer in 2020 at Ibrox, climbing off the bench to replace Joe Aribo for the final 10 minutes under Steven Gerrard's reign.

And the attacker, currently on loan at Championship side Hamilton Accies, was thrilled to see the Uddingston youngster become the latest Auchenhowie starlet to get his first team breakthrough.

He said: “I was delighted when I got my Rangers debut in the Scottish Cup and I was delighted for him on Friday.

“He’s a great wee player and he’s great off the pitch as well, so he deserves it.

“As I was in the building [at the Rangers Training Centre], I got to know him and you could see he’s a good player.

“It’s every boy’s dream and a lot of the boys would love to do it, especially at Rangers in front of 50,000 fans, with one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“For me, it was a goal that I’d be trying to achieve for my whole life and when I did it, it was amazing.”
