Rangers youngster Chris McKee was so distraught by his red card for allegedly using homophobic language that he couldn't even speak through his tears.
The 19-year-old striker spent the second-half of the season on-loan with Brechin City and was leading the line in yesterday's League Two playoff final at Glebe Park against Barry Ferguson 's Kelty Hearts.
However, McKee was shown a straight red card by referee Craig Napier after just 41 minutes, with it later confirmed he'd been accused of using 'foul and abusive language of a homophobic nature'.
With Kelty going on to win the two-legged tie 3-1 on aggregate, Brechin's player-manager Michael Paton has revealed just how upset McKee has been by the incident.
After the full-time whistle, Paton elaborated: "I think Chris has said something to the referee he isn’t too happy with.
“I haven’t got the chance to speak to him as he is in a state, crying in the dressing room. He can’t even get his words out.
“He is bubbling and he isn’t wanting to talk to anyone so I don’t know what he said.
“But for the referee to show him a straight red card then it must be something clear enough and something that shouldn’t have been said.”
With Rangers revealing they're set to thoroughly investigate the dismissal, it remains to be seen what damage this could do to McKee's career, with the Northern Ireland youth international still having one more year on his deal at Ibrox.
