Rangers kick off title party by heading straight for the fans as punters go wild for Ibrox heroes

Jubilant Rangers players saluted the crowds of delighted fans after defeating St Mirren 3-0 at Ibrox.

Earlier in the day a large number of supporters descended on the home of the champions elect before the game.

Smoke bombs and flares filled the air as Steven Gerrard and his players received a heroes welcome ahead of the Premiership clash.

And it had them roaring from the get-go as Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos had the league leaders 2-0 up after just 16 minutes.

Ianis Hagi then found the third just a seconds after the restart to effectively kill the game as a contest as Jim Goodwin's men headed back to Paisley with a loss, although youngest-ever Saint Dylan Reid's debut as a substitute provided a bright spot.

And the joy was clear to see as a decade of agony could finally end on Sunday with Celtic now needing to win against Dundee United to delay the crowning moment.

Once the final whistle went a number of players and backroom staff headed straight for a corner of Ibrox that leads out onto the pavement outside.

'Sweet Caroline' played out from the stadium tannoy as they made their way over.

Scott Arfield led the charge and the Rangers diehard was soon joined by the whole team.

Many of the fans that turned up on Edmiston Drive before kick-off had been dispersed but a number stuck around for the full-time whistle.

It's been nearly a year since fans were last inside Ibrox when the last capacity crowd descended on Govan for last season's Europa League tie with Bayer Leverkusen on March 12, before football was halted in the country due to the Covid-19 pandemic one day later.
