Rangers 'keeping tabs' on Everton defender Mason Holgate

Rangers are reportedly keeping tabs on Everton defender Mason Holgate.

The Englishman is currently on loan at Southampton but Toffees boss Sean Dyche is set to end his spell at St Mary's.

And The Sun claim that the Ibrox side are "waiting in the wings" take the 27-year-old north of the border.

He has not played since November 11 leading to Everton being likely to recall the player.

Middlesbrough and Watford are also said to be interested in the centre-back.

Meanwhile, Lee McCulloch insists Rangers are correct to appeal Jose Cifuentes' red card against Dundee.

The midfielder was sent off by Kevin Clancy after a VAR review for catching Amadou Bakayoko late in the challenge.

He was originally booked before the decision was upgraded to a red. The Ibrox side have decided to appeal the incident which will be heard by a fast-track tribunal on Tuesday.

And McCulloch feels it is the correct call from Philippe Clement's side. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "It's not an area of the pitch they have a lot of people fit.

"They're struggling in there at the moment so it makes sense to appeal the card to try and make him available.

"I do think there is grounds there for the appeal and obviously so did Rangers as they have went ahead with it.

"I didn't see any malice in the challenge. I think he has caught up but there is no intent. Whether it is serious, dangerous play, whatever they call it, that will be up for the panel to decide.

"But I definitely think there is grounds there."
