Rangers keeper Allan McGregor given brutal Besiktas title by Turkish media

Turkish media have ranked Allan McGregor as the worst Besiktas keeper of the past 20 years.

The Rangers favourite joined the Super Lig giants in 2012 after his initial departure from Ibrox and spent just one season at the club.

McGregor moved to Hull City in 2013 and spent five years in England before his return to Glasgow last year, where he has once again been a huge hit.

However, Turkish outlet Sabah, via Sport Witness, refuse to look back on McGregor's brief stint abroad with any fondness, where he made 27 appearances and helped the club to a third place league finish.

They've named the 38-year-old ahead of former Liverpool loanee Lorius Karius as Besiktas' worst performer between the sticks in the past two decades.

That is, albeit, by using a rather basic algorithm.

The list has been decided on goals conceded per game, of which McGregor averaged 1.5 in his solitary campaign.

That not only means he has a smaller sample size than some other stoppers on the list, but that's arguably not the most effective way of measuring a keeper's contribution.

It's not uncommon to see keepers in struggling teams lauded for their efforts despite the team shipping goals left, right and centre.

And that's why the 37-year-old likely won't lose too much sleep despite the unwanted moniker.

He's been integral for Steven Gerrard over the past year, immediately reclaiming the number one jersey.

McGregor made 52 appearances last term and was named in the PFA Team of the Year.
