Rangers keeper Allan McGregor banned for Celtic clash after being sent off for outrageous kick at Marc McNulty

Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor was red carded after taking an extraordinary boot at Hibs' Marc McNulty in the final minute of Sunday's Premiership clash at Ibrox.

And he will now be banned for next Sunday's final derby meeting of the season with Celtic.

The veteran keeper lashed out at the Hibs striker as he attempted to block his clearance in the closing stages of Rangers' 1-0 win and was immediately shown the red card by Bobby Madden.

It came just moments after McGregor had saved his side with an outstanding stop from Flo Kamberi.

The violent conduct red card brings with it an automatic two-game suspension, meaning McGregor's season looks to be over.

But Rangers could appeal the decision, freeing up the keeper for the Celtic clash. But the moment of madness infuriated Rangers boss Steven Gerrard. He later admitted he was "running out of ideas" over how to sort his side’s poor disciplinary record.

McGregor was suspended retrospectively for two matches in February after kicking out at Aberdeen's Lewis Ferguson at Pittodrie.

He also came in for criticism after catching Celtic's Kris Ajer in the first derby of the season in September.

Rangers were forced to field Ross McCrorie in goals for the closing stages after Gerrard had made all three of his substitutions.

The defender - whose brother Robby is a goalkeeper at Ibrox - kept a clean sheet to see out the 1-0 victory.

Sky Sports pundit hammered McGregor and claimed the flashpoint was "absolutely mental".
