Rangers 'join Luca Connell chase' as battle for Republic of Ireland youth star heats up

Rangers have joined the chase to sign Bolton prospect Luca Connell - according to reports.

The versatile 18-year-old has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at youth level despite being born in Liverpool.

He made his Bolton debut in January 2019 and has since gone on to make 10 first team appearances for the relegated Championship outfit.

And now Rangers have joined other interested parties including Norwich, Southampton and Preston in chasing the out-of-contract teenager, report the Daily Mail.

The Ibrox side would need to pay a small compensation fee but that wouldn't be at the same level the three English clubs would be forced to pay due to the cross-border rules.

Bolton have well-documented struggles and are currently in administration after relegation to League One.

They'll start next season with a 12 point deduction.

Steven Gerrard has already made three signings for Rangers next season, with Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Steven Davis signing pre-contracts.

Greg Stewart is also set to sign a deal while the Ibrox side also want to sign Oldham's George Edmundson and Aberdeen's on-loan Derby left back Max Lowe.
